July 19 there was a retro moto festival "Wheel of Time 2014" held in the eco-tourism center Stankovo where there was an official presentation of the legendary Ford Model T, year of manufacture 1924.
This year the festival attracted a record number of participants - over 100 people from 9 countries. Moreover, some bikers arrived in Belarus on their retro motorcycles.
Although the festival brought together lots of motovehicles, our Tin Lizzie became a real pearl of the event. A queue of those wishing to take pictures with the rarity did not end until the event was closed.
There is lots of interesting to be said about this car. The first production of this model rolled off the assembly line in 1908. At that time America rode mainly horse drawn transport. It is the Model T that put America on wheels.
How did this car get such an interesting nickname? Let's study the etymology of the word. Actually "Lizzie" was a common name for a horse in the United States. And since Ford replaced the live horse, it was called "Tin Lizzie."
This car was the first one to have millions production. Ford set a record low price for this car. Even the workers that worked at the factory which produced it could afford it. So "Lizzie" become the most popular and affordable car to the middle class in the world. By the way, Even Chapaev and Hemingway had their own "Tins".
Today Ford Model T occupies a place of honor in the museum of the fuel industry of A-100. A new exhibit is unlikely to be kept outdoors, as the others, because our "Lizzie" is already 90 years old, and you will agree it is quite a good age!
